There is growing confusion over the whereabouts of the authorised biography of F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone.

Although the book is listed on Amazon, and is said to be selling well, there is, as yet, no sign of it, with some sources claiming that Ecclestone has put the project "on hold" and will not allow its publication until after he leaves F1, which according to some of his contracts could be another 97 years.

The biography is written by Susan Watkins, wife of former FIA Medical Delegate, Professor Sid Watkins, who has previously written acclaimed biographies of Elizabeth I, Mary Queen of Scots and Jane Austen.

Having reached an agreement with Ecclestone to write his (first) authorised biography, Watkins is understood to have sent the Englishman each chapter, as it was completed, in order that he could check it, since he retained full editorial control.

However, it's understood that Bernie didn't read the book until the final chapter was sent across, at which time he allegedly withdrew his consent and the project was put 'on hold'.

Ironically, Ecclestone is actually quoted on the book's cover: "It must be open and it must be honest".

The 384-page tome is available on Amazon priced £12.59, though the original cover price is £17.99.

Spotted in a local stationers buying a large pack of black marker pens, Ecclestone refused to comment on when the book might be available.

Meanwhile, a middle-aged Australian is understood to be working on his own 'tribute' to another leading member of the F1 community, a 153,854 page tome entitled, 'Max, You don't give a XXXX for F1'.

His biography of McLaren boss, Ron Dennis, is currently 'on hold'.
