Biography

Following his first experience of Karting - in a local car park - Nicky first began racing 60cc machines, in 1993, aged ten.

In 1995, he moved up to the 100cc Junior Cadet class, finishing 6th in the world championships in Belgium.

In 1997 he contested the European and Dutch 100cc Junior championships, moving up to the 100 cc ICA class in 1998. Having finished 3rd in the European series and 2nd in the Dutch, he progressed to Formula A for 1999 and 2000, enjoying several successes.

In 2002, he also made his single-seater debut, contesting six rounds of the Formula Arcobaleno championship. 3 wins (and 5 poles) saw him finish 3rd overall, even though he didn't contest the full series.

In 2001 he contested the Formula Renault 2000 Italian Championship, moving on to the Formula Renault 2000 European Championship a year later.

Switching to Euro3000 in 2003, the Dutchman finished 5th overall, courtesy of two second places and several other strong results.

He remained in Euro3000 in 2004, now signed to the Draco Junior Team. A win in the final round at Nurburgring, in addition to his win at Monza, was enough to see the Dutchman take the championship, narrowly beating Italian rival Fabrizio Del Monte.

The Euro3000 win secured Nicky a tests with the Minardi F1 team and the Walker Racing Champ Car Team.

In late February (2005), Jordan - now owned by Alex Shnaider and Midland F1 - signed Nicky as part of its '"Young Driver Programme', the first driver to be signed up to the scheme. The Dutchman was scheduled to act as test driver for the Jordan team in 2006, along with 'third' driver Robert Doornbos, who eventually secured a race seat with Minardi. However there were few outings, completing under 400 miles in the car, and Dane, Nicolas Kiesa being brought in to replace Doornbos.

In late 2005, Pastorelli was named as Midland's official test and reserve driver for 2006, but almost immediately there was talk of financial woe, compounded, just weeks later, by the news that Markus Winkelhock would fulfil the role.
