Hamilton appears to retract Ferrari accusation

NEWS STORY
09/07/2018

As Maurizio Burgundy – sorry, Arrivabene - lashed out at Mercedes technical director James Allison for his suggestion that Ferrari's drivers were deliberately targeting Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, calling on the German team to "stay classy", the world champion took to social media to seemingly retract his claim that yesterday's first lap clash reflected the Italian team's "interesting tactics".

"Kimi said sorry and we move on," the Briton wrote on Instagram. "It was a racing incident and nothing more."

"Sometimes we say dumb things," he wrote, going on to reveal that the race had drained him.

"I lost nearly 3kg trying to get back to the top for you and my team," he wrote. "I barely had any energy at the end to stand, let alone talk.

"If you can't understand and appreciate that, then I fully understand. However, it was nothing to do with anger, literally just exhausted both mentally and physically.

"Thank you to everyone for the incredible support this weekend. We win and lose together. Onwards and upwards."

Meanwhile, Raikkonen's wife, Minttu, also took to Instagram, suggesting, in a post, now deleted: "If you cry like a girl when you lose... do ballet."

In a subsequent response to a fan who defended Hamilton, she added: "Just to be clear, I was not talking about the driver but the team who was crying afterwards that someone did something on purpose... No he didn't. It's called racing."

"I'm reasonably sure it wasn't "deliberate", but equally I rather doubt that Kimi was taking maximum care not to punt Lewis off.
Kimi's wife's comments were childish and silly and reflect far more on her than on Mercedes or Hamilton.

The big take-away, yet again is that the Stewards are not dishing-out adequate punishments when drivers ruin others' races through bad, over-ambitious moves. Similarly there's little consistencey (what's new). Let's hope that if\when Vettel is taken-out the offender gets a similarly paltry 'penalty', and is free to swan off, get 3rd place & lots of points..."

"Rock Doc: "The correct response in the light of day. Well done Lewis." Emmm not exactly, even by Lewis's "divine right" mindset ... Lewis should have sent his dad along to Charlie Whiting to complain... Oh wait.. he's not talking to his dad any more. Aha so maybe that's where he's going wrong."

"Silly season has started with style on a shiny sunday afternoon. Let's moving on to the next race hoping for another epic fight. We all know Kimi for at least 17 years now. He definitely is one of the most, if not the most, sportsman at play."

"Great come back from the lady. In lieu of grid girls, MB, crew will be decked out in full ballerina garb for the next GP. Lewis is basically a very Rick Jerk who proves it time after time making limp dick apologies for opening mouth before brain (as small as it my be) is engaged. "

"I like Kimi's cheeky wife. Notice Lewis said he has no love life...no wonder...such a cry baby. No sportsmanship and makes it all about him, no matter what. All this drained crap...When Vettel drove with a sore neck; and they could all get out of their car and do interviews. Interesting, he could make it to the cool-down room; stand in the corner and play with his hair and earrings and stand up before having a drink of water; waiting to take the podium. Kimi comes in and does his usual sit down and rest routine. Hamilton is nothing but a show boater. He saw how he was pummeled on social media so he HAD to back pedal. "

"Lewis is who he is.

To function at the absolute limit of human capability, requires a form of tunnel vision.
... but once out of the tunnel, you can see the light.

I never for one moment thought that Kimi purposefully took Lewis out.

Sadly, we know that drivers have done that; but in their personal dual for the championship.
'Win at all costs - even if it includes very bad sporting behaviour'.

However, Kimi isn't at that point ... and even if he was, he doesn't strike me as being someone who would throw his career reputation away so lightly.
