Lewis Hamilton was sent home by his team today, the Englishman appearing to be suffering from some sort of allergy.

The unknown allergic reaction, which appeared to affect his eyes and nose, resulted in Mercedes sending him back to his Shanghai hotel in order that he might recover before Friday's action gets underway.

Although he made a number of commercial appearances on Wednesday it was clear he was unwell and consequently shortly after arriving at the Shanghai circuit this morning he was sent back home.

A team spokesperson confirmed the decision adding that a doctor is due to visit the driver later today.

Shanghai has suffered serious air pollution levels in recent weeks.
