Overall issue gets patched up

NEWS STORY

Three teams forced to make last minute changes to drivers' overalls in order to comply with regulations.

Ferrari, Force India and Mercedes were each asked to modify their drivers' overalls when it was found that they contravene the latest regulations.

Under the latest regulation homologated overalls have to bear an embroidered label confirming that the overalls meet the FIA's safety standards. However, the overalls used by these three teams have the label 'printed' by means of a screening process.

Appendix III of the FIA's document about FIA Standard 8856-2000, which relates to protective clothing for drivers, states: "The label shall be embroidered directly onto the outermost label of the outer garment and on the rear of the collar so as to be easily visible."

Although the drivers have been wearing the 'printed' version for a number of races the embroidered label had to be in place before this morning's opening session got underway. All three teams complied.
