Having said 'wait but see' and not entirely writing off the idea of the FIA's proposed 'push to pass' button, drivers were asked their opinion of night races, at a time when Bernie Ecclestone is pushing ahead with the idea, even though, according to Max Mosley, the sport's governing body has yet to give its approval. Or even have its approval sought.

"I personally, and as well as the Grand Prix Drivers' Association (GPDA), we trust fully that the FIA will come up with the standards that if we race it will be safe," said Ralf Schumacher, a director of the GPDA. "If that's the case I personally will be happy to race, I don't know about the other drivers. It is early days so there is no real need to talk about it yet."

"Personally I think if the safety is good in terms of the lights, I am happy," said Giancarlo Fisichella. "It will be nice and it will be interesting for Formula One.

"Nothing has really been seriously discussed," added Jenson Button. "I haven't really thought about the idea, there has been too much going on to be thinking about that. There is always the possibility in the future and I'm sure the safety standards will be as they are at every other Grand Prix in the day time, which is obviously all we ask for."

Fact is guys, if Bernie's talking night races, it's a matter of when not if.
