From the country that gave us the didgeridoo, Kylie Minogue and tv-soap Neighbours, Australia now offers the fourth round of the A1 Grand Prix of Nations.

Whilst Pakistan may not have a history of motorsport, the idea of each nation competing against one another on a level playing field, or in this case a level track, was nevertheless an exciting prospect for its Chairman and Seat Holder, Arif Husain.

A1 Team Pakistan was one of the first countries to sign up for the series when it was announced in 2004and Arif Husain is proud to bring the world of motorsport to Pakistan. He explains: “First of all I must congratulate His Highness Sheikh Maktoum in formulating A1 Grand Prix and inviting those countries who traditionally have no history of motorsport to participate. By being involved with A1 Grand Prix, it gives us an opportunity to change the perception of Pakistan internationally. It also gives new hope to the youth of Pakistan and by no means least, opens up new business opportunities for Pakistani co-operations by globalising their logos, brands and products.”

With technical support provided by the vastly experienced Super Nova International Racing team, the prospects are good. Pitched against ex-Formula One racing drivers, current Formula One test drivers and other more experienced single-seater competitors, A1 Team Pakistan’s 20-year old driver, Adam Khan has his work cut out for the remainder of the season. But, one thing you can be sure of is what Adam may lack in on-track experience he certainly makes up with ability and determination.

Taking in some of the cultural aspects of OZ, Adam Khan will be completing a walk over Sydney Harbour Bridge. Not for the faint hearted the route will cover 1500 metres of steel venturing across catwalks, ladders and arches resulting in a spectacular 360 degree view of one of the world’s most beautiful harbours and the famous Sydney Opera House.

The first A1GP practice session gets underway on Friday afternoon with the racing action on Sunday. The 3.93km Eastern Creek International Raceway will provide exciting racing with its combination of wide straights and tight curves through the landscaped hills of New South Wales.
