Having consistently complained about the new qualifying format introduced this season, one would have thought that British broadcaster ITV would have been only too keen to show the revised format in Canada this weekend, particularly as the season is turning into something of a thriller.

However, in its infinite wisdom, the broadcaster has opted not to show live coverage of this Saturday's one-hour session, which decides the grid for round eight of the 2005 World Championship.

Instead, British F1 fans will have to wait until 23.30 on Saturday, to see highlights of the session.

ITV, which has three channels, and is said to be keen to start another, will instead offer the following:

ITV1

You've Been Framed, followed by Doctor Dolittle

ITV2

2 episodes of House of Horrors, a programme about 'dodgy builders, and It's Good to Be Justin Timberlake.

ITV3

Robin of Sherwood

The Grand Prix will be shown live on ITV1 on Sunday, though no doubt there will be much anxiety that there are no major incidents - thus delaying the race - as Emmerdale Family Album kicks off at 19.50.

It's thought that the same format - i.e. no live coverage of qualifying - will be used for the United States Grand Prix, which follows a week later.
