While Luca di Montezemolo has overseen two of Ferrari's golden eras - that of the mid-70s and again in the 2000s - since his 'departure' in 2014, under his successor, Sergio Marchionne the team has struggled.
Speaking at the opening of the Michael Schumacher exhibition in Cologne, Montezemolo used the occasion to hit out at Marchionne.
"I'm sad to see that Marchionne is very jealous from the past," he said. "This is bad, because to be jealous of the past means you have something strange in the mind.
"I'm very proud for what we did, Michael, Ross, Todt, so happy for what we did," he added, having assembled the superteam of Brawn, Rory Byrne, Jean Todt and Schumacher that was to dominate the sport from 2000 to 2004.
"Of course Ferrari is always here, and I hope now will again be in a condition to win, because Ferrari needs to win, and for Formula 1 Ferrari is very important.
"I'm still in contact with a few people there," he added, "but after 24 years, I was so lucky to win with Niki (right), with Michael and with Kimi, 19 championship titles, it's enough."
