A lot of preparation goes into each race, much of it before the team gets anywhere near a race circuit. Red Bull Racing's IT team helps to do the heavy lifting behind the scenes and now they have some assistance, courtesy of SimpliVity hyperconverged infrastructure.
SimpliVity is a leader in hyperconverged infrastructure, enabling fast-paced organizations like Red Bull Racing to become more agile, more responsive, and higher-performing in their IT environments.
The Team first invested in SimpliVity in 2015. After seeing all of the benefits the solution delivered, the decision was made to increase investment in hyperconverged infrastructure, and use SimpliVity to process critical data and workloads both in the Factory and at race tracks around the World. In addition, the team is also building a half-sized replica of the race infrastructure to be used for testing, creating a separate logical data centre dedicated to data processing and general workloads at Red Bull Racing's wind tunnel, and adding GPU accelerated high-performance virtual desktops to support demanding engineering applications.
Of the new technology partnership, Matt Cadieux, CIO, Red Bull Racing said: "SimpliVity has given us a 2x performance boost for key use cases compared to other solutions we have evaluated. It has enabled our IT infrastructure to realize substantial efficiency, capacity and performance gains whilst reducing the total cost of ownership and space in our data centres."
Neil Bailey, Head of IT Infrastructure, Red Bull Racing added: "SimpliVity is extremely easy to use, which was an important factor in our consideration of vendors. By taking the complexity out of IT, our team is now able to be creative in places we were limited before. The improvements we are making behind the scenes in IT should pay dividends for our entire team moving forward."
Jesse St. Laurent, VP Product Strategy, SimpliVity concluded: "Red Bull Racing is an organization known for its creativity, speed, and innovation. The racing team's implementation of SimpliVity will help to further separate Red Bull Racing as a leader in Formula One, enabling the team to focus more on the success of its cars and drivers, and less on its IT infrastructure."
