It is looking increasingly likely that Nico Hulkenberg will move to Renault next season.
Anticipating a far better second year in F1 following the baptism by fire (at times literally) that was 2016, the French manufacturer is known to be seeking to strengthen its driver line-up.
Thwarted in its attempts to lure Carlos Sainz from Toro Rosso - Christian Horner suggesting that the French manufacturer even offered free engines in exchange for the Spaniard - and with the likes of Sergio Perez now spoken for, attention has turned to Hulkenberg.
Although the German has a contract with the Silverstone-based outfit for next year, it is understood his contract contains the inevitable escape clauses.
The talk over the Suzuka weekend suggests that a deal could be agreed by Austin, with the German likely to be paired with test and reserve driver Esteban Ocon, currently settling in nicely at Manor.
It is unclear who Force India would replace him with but some suggest pairing Pascal Wehrlein with Sergio Perez would greatly please engine supplier Mercedes.
Speaking in Malaysia last week, Kevin Magnussen revealed that he has extended the deadline by which time he needs confirmation from Renault as to whether it is keeping him. The Dane claims he has received interest from other teams.
