Fernando Alonso is to have an updated power unit in Malaysia this weekend... with resultant grid penalty.
The update, which is understood to involve modifications to the exhaust and a lighter engine block, see the Japanese manufacturer use up two or its three remaining tokens.
The Spaniard will therefore use a new ICE (internal combustion engine), turbocharger, MGU-H and control electronics this weekend, which, while putting him at the back of the grid, should add to his stockpile - a move that will be outlawed next season - and get him to the end of the season.
Alonso, who will now be on his eighth ICE of the season, seventh turbocharger, sixth MGU-H and sixth control electronics, will also have access to updated parts that he will be evaluating during Friday's sessions.
