NEWS STORY

During the practice sessions ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix, the Sauber F1 Team continued its aero evaluation. As the Marina Bay Street Circuit is a low-speed track, a high downforce configuration has been tested here for the first time. Issues on Marcus Ericsson’s car forced the team to change the engine for FP2. As usual, the second free practice was mainly about race preparation with short and long-runs on supersoft and ultrasolft tyres.

Marcus Ericsson: "It has been a difficult day. In FP1 I struggled with the car due to power unit issues, so we decided to change the engine for FP2. In this session I had a good feeling on the supersoft tyres, but for some reason on the ultrasoft compound I struggled to get them to work. So far we do not understand why that was the case, so we need to look into it and analyse what happened."

Felipe Nasr: "It was a productive day. In FP1 we continued our evaluation of the aero package, as we were running a high downforce configuration for the first time. It was good to collect data and to get a feeling for the balance of the car. For the rest of the weekend we still have some work to do in terms of the set-up of the car. With regard to the race, it will be important to have good tyre management."
