Nico Hulkenberg and Carlos Sainz have both received grid penalties for tomorrow's German Grand Prix.

Sainz was adjudged to have impeded Felipe Massa during Q2, the Spaniard seemingly oblivious to the fact that the Williams was approaching from behind on a flying lap.

Caught totally off guard the Toro Rosso driver took to the grass on the inside of the corner in an effort to get out of the way of the Brazilian, but that didn't impress the stewards.

Deeming that he impeded Massa in T2, an incident as defined by Article 31.6 of the Sporting Regulations, the stewards handed Sainz a 3-place grid penalty and 2 penalty points, bringing his total for the 12 month period to 4.

Hulkenberg drops one grid place after it was discovered that his team had used tyres without appropriate identification during Q1.

Deeming that Force India returned electronically the wrong set of tyres and used them during Q1, a breach of Article 24.3 e) of the Sporting Regulations, the German was given a one-place drop.

Romain Grosjean will drop 5-places after his team opted to change his gearbox after FP3, while Mercedes was hit with a 10,000 euro fine for its unsafe release of Lewis Hamilton into the path of the Haas driver during FP3.
