Monaco marked Kimi Raikkonen's second DNF of the season, and whilst escaping punishment for the incident on lap 7 which saw the Finn try to continue despite having his front wing trapped beneath his car following a clash with the barriers, thus rendering the SF16-H undriveable and compromising Romain Grosjean, his championship lead over teammate Sebastian Vettel was reduced to just one point.
Though his retirement means Ferrari has failed to get both cars home on four occasions this year, team boss Maurizio Arrivabene is understanding of the Finn's plight.
"Every driver that I have known in the past has a track that he doesn't like," said the Italian, "and Kimi doesn't like Monaco, even if he once won here.
"Each driver has his own 'black beast'," insisted the Italian. "I remember that Michael (Schumacher) did not particularly like the Istanbul circuit, and that Massa was always faster than him.
"We need not complain about Kimi but to accept that his race was over early," he continued. "He is pushing to always do his best for the rest of the season. The trip to Monaco is one that he would willingly want to be taken off the calendar however, I'm not sure that Ecclestone would agree."
