Sauber has revealed that it will not participate in the forthcoming test at Barcelona.
The Swiss team announced the move on Twitter in a couple of posts late this afternoon, just seven days before the test is scheduled to begin.
"Quick news," read the first. "We cancelled the first in-season test in BCN. There are 2 reasons: 1. We will not introduce a car update at the Spanish GP
"We do not have a young/test driver available that fulfils the requirements F1," added the second.
Of course, more important is the Swiss outfit's much publicised financial situation which has cast a shadow over its participation not only in the in-season tests but the remainder of the season.
Despite early payments of some of its prize money from Bernie Ecclestone, there has been talk of staff not being paid and team boss Monisha Kaltenborn has been spending more time talking to possible investors and buyers than at races.
