Ferrari has revealed that the wife of its technical director James Allison has passed away.
A brief message of condolence from the Italian team this afternoon reads: "Our colleague James Allison has suffered the sudden loss of his beloved wife Rebecca.
"We at Ferrari are united with him and his family during this period of profound sorrow."
Allison rejoined Ferrari in 2014 as technical director having been Aerodynamicist responsible for Track Operations between 2000 and 2004.
He first entered F1 in 1991 with Benetton as a junior aerodynamicist subsequently leaving for Larrousse before returning to Enstone in 1994.
Over the years he rose to the position of Head of Aerodynamics before leaving to join Ferrari in 2000.
In 2005, he moved back to Enstone, where Benetton has morphed into Renault, the Briton appointed Technical Director, a role he held as the team became Lotus Renault GP and finally Lotus.
