In its determination to catch Mercedes, Ferrari has spent 23 of its allowed 32 tokens.
A change to the technical regulations this year means that as opposed to the 15 tokens engine manufacturers were going to be allowed this season, they are now free to spend 32.
Furthermore, the revised regulations allow manufacturers to develop parts that were initially planned to be closed off, including the upper and lower crankcase, valve drive, crankshaft, air-valve system and ancillaries drive.
Ahead of this weekend's season opener, the FIA has announced that Ferrari has spent 23 of its tokens, leaving it with 9, whilst Honda has spent 18.
Despite already having the benchmark power unit, Mercedes has used 19 tokens and Renault just 7, the French manufacturer, as in 2015, looking to use its allocation later in the year.
