In a late move, Mercedes has opted to run Nico Rosberg this morning instead of teammate Lewis Hamilton.
"Nico will drive the W07 Hybrid beast this morning with Lewis at the wheel this afternoon," revealed the team around twenty minutes before the start of the session.
"Why? With the unprecedented mileage levels seen thus far in Barcelona, we want to keep our boys in top shape for Melbourne!" added the world champions.
"Tomorrow will see the drivers split duties once again," the team added, "Lewis in the morning, Nico in the afternoon..."
Whilst the honours have gone to Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari, in terms of setting the pace, the Mercedes has shown fearsome reliability, Hamilton completing 156 trouble-free laps on Monday, and Rosberg a further 172 yesterday.
Furthermore, as the team continues to try new parts, neither driver has yet switched from mediums to the soft rubber, far less super-soft or ultras, something that will not be lost on the opposition.
