Formula One's newest team took to social media tonight to confirm that having passed its final mandatory crash test it has been given the go-ahead to take part in the opening pre-season test in just over six weeks time.

"Passed @FIA crash test," declared the Banbury-based American team. "Next up: testing @Circuitcat_eng. #F1"

Previously, the crash tests, first introduced in 1985, weren't compulsory until the opening race of the season, but in the last couple of years the regulations have been changed so that cars must pass before they are allowed to take part in pre-season testing.

The test took place at the Bollate CSI facility in Milan, the chassis having been designed by Dallara, not forgetting the technical partnership with Ferrari.

The tests completed, all that is needed before the car takes to the track at Barcelona on 22 February is for the FIA to issue the final homologation papers, which should happen in the coming days.
