Despite two safety car periods, Luca Ghiotto claimed his third win of the season and extends his championship lead.
Under the blue skies of Spa-Francorchamps, the GP2 series commenced its final race of the Belgian Grand Prix weekend. Aleksander Bosak started on reverse pole, though it was Esteban Ocon who bulleted up the grid, travelling from sixth place to second.
Yesterday's race winner, Emil Bernstorff (after Ocon was penalised) retired in the pitlane.
An accident involving Matthew Parry and pole-sitter, Bosak, triggered a safety car whilst marshals cleared the mass debris. A puncture sent the Arden pilot off the road and a loose wheel clattered into the side of Parry's car.
Moments after the restart, the safety car was back out following a collision between Ferrari Academy driver, Antonio Fuoco and Marvin Kirchhofer. The duo came together whilst battling for fifth place and also collected Artur Janosz, though the Trident driver was able to continue.
With the laps counting down, Ghiotto took second place from Ocon, then subsequently snatched the lead from Alex Palou – who was seemingly struggling with his worn Pirellis.
Ocon took the chequered flag in second, ahead of Alfonso Celis Jr in third. Matheo Tuscher crept in front of Palou to take fourth in the dying stages, whilst Alex Fontana finished in sixth. Despite the contact, Janosz was seventh with Ralph Boschung close behind. Adderly Fong and Pal Varhaug complete the top ten.
