Nobuharu Matsushita claimed his first GP2 Series race win after a commanding display in Hungary, whilst Stoffel Vandoorne made it an ART 1-2.
At the start, second placed Raffaele Marciello was bogged down allowing Vandoorne and Sergey Sirotkin to cruise past.
With cars slipping, sliding and running wide, tyre management was key. Indeed, battling tyre degradation in Budapest’s humid conditions proved very difficult, for some.
The Racing Engineering duo looked to be on for a strong finish, but for Alexander Rossi, a pit stop for fresh tyres was unavoidable.
After running in seventh place, Jordan King was under pressure from those behind and was swiftly passed by Arthur Pic and Nathanael Berthon amongst others, dropping the Briton to twelfth.
Matsushita led the race from start to finish managing the gap to his team-mate with ease.
Despite tyre struggles, Vandoorne kept Sirotkin at bay to secure an ART 1- 2. Today’s result is podium number nine for the series leader and the perfect tribute to former driver who won the 2009 F3 Euroseries with the team and twice finished third overall in this championship.
Marciello held on to fourth place ahead of Campos pilot, Rio Haryanto in fifth. Norman Nato crossed the line in sixth - his best position to date - whilst Robert Visoiu was seventh.
The DAMS duo were next to finish as Pierre Gasly led Alex Lynn to the chequered flag; just in front of Pic, who secured the final point.
