According to the team, the Finn, who suffered small tear in the annular part of a disc in his lower back during qualifying in Melbourne and was therefore unable to race, has been with a leading physiotherapist who has been working with him and his trainer to make sure he received the best treatment possible ahead of this weekend’s race.

"Valtteri Bottas was this morning examined by the FIA Medical Delegate and the Chief Medical Officer at the Sepang Circuit Medical Centre," said the Sepang Race Stewards following today's examinations. "The driver passed all mandatory fitness tests and has thus been declared fit to race in this weekend's Grand Prix.

"However, the driver has been informed that in case of a recurrence of pain or any abnormal feeling he must stop at the earliest opportunity."

Following his approval, Williams confirmed that Bottas will be back in the FW37 this weekend, breaking the news on Twitter.

"Good News: Valtteri cleared to drive this weekend at the Malaysia GP #WeAreRacing," wrote the Grove outfit.

The Finn subsequently added: "Passed the medical tests and I've been given green light from FIA to race this weekend! Let's do it! I want to thank the Williams team and FIA for the support and trust on this matter - as well as all the fans, you've been mega!"
