As the F1 Commission meets in Geneva to discuss the future of the sport, Ferrari looks a little further ahead.
"Would it be possible to come up with an F1 car which not only is technologically advanced, but also captivating to the eye and aggressive-looking?" asks the Italian team on its website. "And could this be made without having to overturn the current technical rules?
"At Ferrari, we believe so. Let us introduce you to the 'concept design' that was conceived by our design studio (Centro Stile Ferrari) together with the Scuderia's aero department.
"Minimal changes give the car a look that is way different from what have been familiar with so far. Our challenge was to create something that was - to put it short - better looking."
Whilst team boss Maurizio Arrivabene recently called for a more Rock 'n' Roll approach to the sport, others are calling for the cars to look more aggressive. At first glance, the Ferrari concept certainly falls into the aggressive category, though, in our humble opinion, it leans more towards LMP1 than purist single-seater.
By an amazing coincidence, the images are released on the same day the F1 Commission meets in Geneva to discuss changes to the sport, the teams (as ever) divided on what changes should be made and when.
Whilst some, such as Ferrari, are clearly taking a futuristic approach, others appear to favour a retrograde step, taking inspiration from the cars of the 1990s.
McLaren and Red Bull have also produced concept cars, but have not made the designs public.
