Force India boss Vijay Mallya has confirmed that Sergio Perez will continue to partner Nico Hulkenberg in 2015.
At the end of a torrid day in which he failed to get out on track after reserve driver crashed in FP1, the Mexican could at least take comfort from the fact that he has retained his seat with the Silverstone-based outfit.
"I have a two-year contract with Sergio Perez," Mallya told reporters. "There is nothing to hide. The possibility came of extending Checo's contract into 2016 as well. That is what is under negotiation. We are talking about one additional year. We had an option that was signed as part of his original contract, we have exercised the option."
All of which demonstrates how little attention should be paid to contracts, since when Perez was announced by Force India on December 12 last year it was on a "multi-year deal", the Mexican driving for the team "in 2014 and beyond".
Perhaps in future such announcements should include the requisite caveats.
