On his 35th birthday, Kimi Raikkonen says he could remain at Ferrari beyond next season.
While, based on his 2014 form and his dislike of the new formula, could lead some to misinterpret the headline as 'Ferrari will finish his career', the Iceman has dispelled talk of him leaving Ferrari any time soon, admitting that he would like to remain with the Maranello outfit beyond the end of his current contract. However, he stresses, whatever happens, once he leaves Ferrari he leaves F1.
"I'm not a young guy anymore so obviously I want to do something more in my life than just Formula One," he told CNN. "But I have no plans, I will finish my career at Ferrari, we'll see in the future."
Asked about claims earlier this year that he would not see out his current contract, which runs out at the end of 2015, with the Italian team, he replied: "No I never said that. The only thing that I said was that I will finish my career in Ferrari... my F1 career in Ferrari, then people came up with 'it's end of this year, it's now, it's then'.
"With newspapers they just try to make rumours, wanting to be the guy that writes something up, it's just rumours."
Following a dramatic return to the sport in 2012 with Lotus, many were expecting the Finn to give Fernando Alonso a run for his money at Ferrari this season. However, the new formula doesn't suit Raikkonen, much as it doesn't suit Sebastian Vettel.
However, whilst Alonso has got on with it, regularly delivering performances that flatter the F14T, many believe that Raikkonen's results are a better indication of where the Italian team is in the 2014 order.
