Massa: Spa stewards should have acted

Felipe Massa believes the stewards at Spa should have punished Nico Rosberg following his controversial clash with Lewis Hamilton.

"What I saw in the last race maybe was not really so correct from Nico, to be honest," the Williams driver told reporters at Monza. "I don't understand why they didn't give a penalty to him because it was impossible to pass Lewis on that place.

"He didn't brake and they just touched and Nico was behind," he continued. "So Nico destroyed Lewis's race. I don't understand why the FIA didn't give a penalty to him."

Whilst everyone has a view on the incident and all that followed, Massa's comments are of particular interest because in 2011 he and the Briton had a number of incidents one, in which Hamilton punctured the Brazilian's right-rear tyre resulting in a drive-through, whilst following another clash in Japan he called on the FIA to take action over what he saw as another rash move by the (then) McLaren driver.

Famously, Massa approached Hamilton in the paddock in Singapore following another incident, put his hand on the Briton's shoulder and said "Good job, bro!", Hamilton turning around - on camera - and warning the Brazilian never to touch him again.

Referring to the Spa stewards, Massa continued. "I think the FIA have a really tough job," he said, congratulating the stewards for their past performance. I think their problem is that the scenario is always different, so the same rule doesn't always apply exactly. Sometimes perhaps it is difficult to say which rule applies to what situation."
