Whilst his bravery, pace and determination has never been in question - witness his drive through the field to a podium finish last time out in Hungary - Lewis Hamilton yesterday showed a new ruthless side to his character, admitting that he aims to inflict pain on his Mercedes teammate.
Whilst team bosses do their best to contain a situation that could get out of hand as the title fight builds to a crescendo, both drivers still smarting from what happened that day three weeks ago, Hamilton told reporters that he doesn't simply want to win the title, he wants to totally beat his teammate, and former karting buddy, in the process.
"There are different views on what is a team player," he said. "When it means waving your team-mate through, that for sure is not.
"I want to win and be the best team player when it means that," he continued. "I work with the team. I am not hiding anything from Nico. He has all my data. I never ever have asked my guys, 'don't show that to Nico.'
"I want him to be at his best, because it is more painful when you are at your best and getting beat," he concluded. "That's more painful."
