Alexander Rossi has announced that he is no longer involved with the Caterham F1 team.

In a tweet earlier this morning, the American wrote: "It's been an emotional couple of years with Caterham F1. The highlight being driving with them in Austin last year. Now it's time to move on."

While the move is understandable in terms of the F1 team, which was recently bought by an (ahem) Swiss/Middle East consortium, Rossi is also believed to have severed ties with Caterham's GP2 team which remains under the control of tony Fernandes and his partners.

Rossi, who last drove the Caterham in FP1 in Montreal, has been linked with Gene Haas' project though that isn't due to enter F1 until 2016.

The 22-year-old, the 2008 Formula BMW Americas champion and 2008 Formula BMW World Final winner has had a largely disappointing season in GP2 this year, his best result being a 5th in the Sprint Race in Austria.
