Cregan joins Sochi team

The promoters of the Russian Grand Prix have recruited Rasgaira, the consultancy company run by Richard Cregan the former Toyota Motorsport boss and Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management's chief executive.

Cregan, who has overseen the Yas Marina Circuit for the past five years and with it the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, along with his team has committed to a three year contract and has already begun work.

"I am pleased to announce the beginning of a collaboration between Formula Sochi and Richard Cregan with his team," said Oleg Zabara, the promoter of the Russian Grand Prix. "The combined, impressive experience that the international consultants have, their understanding of the Formula One world, and the desire to do the Grand Prix at the highest level guarantee a good result of our teamwork.

"Knowledge and experience which we will get in the course of this cooperation will ensure not only hosting the world-class Grand Prix, but also effective use of the autodrome in Sochi all year-round."

"I am delighted to be part of this exciting project to help deliver the Grand Prix with my team and the team of Formula Sochi," said Cregan. "Together we will make this a Grand Prix to remember for the people of Sochi and Russia.

"Moving on from Abu Dhabi was a tough decision for me but I have always enjoyed a new challenge and remain an advisor to the Chairman and management there. I am convinced that the Russian Grand Prix will become one of the iconic events on the calendar and we will be able to build a very successful business by utilizing the amazing assets and the passion of the team here in Sochi."

Cregan (pictured with Oleg Zabara) with started working for Toyota Team Europe in 1985, rising from a mechanic to the General Manager of Toyota Motorsport and Team Manager for F1. During his 24-year career at Toyota the team won seven World Rally Titles, finished second at the Le Mans 24 hour race and had multiple successes in F1.

In 2008 he was offered the position of General Manager and in 2009 became CEO of Abu Dhabi Motorsport Management, the company, responsible for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and the development of motorsport in the UAE.
