NEWS STORY
Lotus has revealed that Kimi Raikkonen has successfully undergone surgery on his back.
Last weekend it was announced that the Finn was pulling out of the two remaining races in order to undergo surgery to a long-term back injury further aggravated during the Singapore Grand Prix weekend.
News of his absence from the United States and Brazilian races came just days after the 2007 world champion had revealed that he has yet to be paid a single euro for his services this year.
As his team sported #GetWellSoonKimi hashtags on its cars in Austin, it issued the following statement:
"As planned, Kimi Räikkönen underwent back surgery yesterday at The University Hospital of Strasbourg. Lotus F1 Team is happy to report that the operation was totally successful, according to Professor Afshin Gangi.
Kimi will now rest for a few days and he will start his recovery process as early as next week. Everyone at the track and at Enstone wishes him a quick recovery."
