NEWS STORY
Romain Grosjean has been penalised following his clash with Jenson Button during today's Hungarian Grand Prix but retains his sixth position finish.
On a day when many tipped the French youngster to score his maiden F1 victory, we got to witness the full spectrum of his talents, the very best and the very worst.
While many will feel the stewards were harsh in giving him a drive-through penalty when he left the track whilst overtaking Felipe Massa in the infamous T4, they will feel, along with the stewards that his clash with Jenson Button at the chicane (T6) just a few laps earlier fully deserved some form of punishment.
Having seen video evidence and spoken to both drivers, the stewards, who include former F1 racer Allan McNish, handed the French youngster a 20s penalty in lieu of a drive-though. However, even with the penalty the Lotus driver retained sixth position, having crossed the finish line 21.524s ahead of Button.
Grosjean admitted that he thought he had fully passed Button when he obviously had not. He proceeded to move over to the left to rejoin the racing line whilst
the McLaren was still alongside.
