Pastor Maldonado will start todays Malaysian Grand Prix with a new Renault engine after his team elected to change his powerplant overnight.
Although the car was under parc ferme conditions Maldonado will not receive a grid penalty as the new engine is one of the eight allocated for the season.
Only when a driver uses a ninth engine does he receive a grid penalty.
Maldonado will line up sixteenth on the grid having not set a time in the second phase of qualifying when a rain shower interrupted the session.
