Ferrari has officially confirmed that Felipe Massa will remain with the team for 2013 alongside Fernando Alonso.
A brief statement issued this afternoon read:
Scuderia Ferrari announces that it has renewed its contract with the driver Felipe Massa to the end of the 2013 race season.
The Scuderia's driver line-up for next year is therefore made up of Fernando Alonso and the aforementioned Felipe Massa.
The Brazilian's future has been the subject of speculation for much of the season, indeed, even during pre-season testing there were internet rumours circulating that he'd been sacked, the driver and his team responding with well aimed tweets.
While his season didn't get off to the best of starts, in recent races he has shown a marked improvement as the team seeks to pull behind Fernando Alonso in his championship bid.
2013 will mark Massa's eighth season with the team, during which time he has contested 155 Grands Prix for the Scuderia, winning 11 of them. In 2008, he was world champion for all of 38.9s, Lewis Hamilton famously claiming the crown in a last corner move involving Timo Glock.
