NEWS STORY
All too often our sport makes it in to the mainstream news for all the wrong reasons, how odd therefore that it takes a potential disaster to show the truly good side of Formula One.
Of course, those that are involved in it or have followed it for long enough will be aware that beneath the surface Formula One is a community.
Officials, Team bosses and drivers will bicker over all manner of things and sometimes it gets a little out of hand, but that's the nature of the sport, that's life.
Fact is, Formula One is our passion and despite some of the bull that comes up from time to time we all care passionately about our sport.
With Spy-gate, Lie-gate, Crash-gate and just about every other gate that comes along we recoil in horror as the sport we have always defended appears to shoot itself in the foot. Then there are those who appear to be involved merely to drain every last dollar, pound, euro or yen out of it.
As awful as the events of yesterday were, to see members of the F1 community rally together, putting all petty differences aside, and help their counterparts to safety was truly inspiring, and should fill everyone involved with the sport with pride.
No doubt the engineers, team boffins and team bosses are already working on how best to gain an advantage over the opposition in Monaco and beyond, however, for a couple of hours yesterday we saw the true spirit of the Formula One community.
You made us proud.
