It's believed that Lewis Hamilton will be called as a witness when Adrian Sutil stands trial in Munich later this month.
Hours after winning the Chinese Grand Prix, the Englishman was with Sutil when the German is alleged to have attacked Lotus co-owner Eric Lux in a Shanghai nightclub.
While Sutil subsequently apologised to Lux claiming that the incident, in which he suffered a gash to his neck with a broken Champagne glass, was an accident, Lux subsequently filed a criminal complaint against the driver for physical assault and grievous bodily harm.
Legal proceedings against Sutil began in Munich yesterday however, his manager, Manfred Zimmermann, believes they will find his client not guilty.
"We are convinced that the court will come to the conclusion that there was no intentional attack," he said, according to the Daily Telegraph. "We feel good. So the truth will come out."
Widely linked with Williams, even before it was officially confirmed that he'd lost his Force India drive to Nico Hulkenberg, Sutil has yet to secure a berth for 2012.
However, sources in German claim that if found guilty the driver could face four years in jail.
