The Serious Fraud Office is considering investigating the bribery claims surrounding Bernie Ecclestone in relation to the trial of Gerhard Gribkowsky.
The F1 supremo has said that a payment to the former BayernLB banker was to prevent him going to the British tax authorities at the time the sport was being sold five years ago.
In a letter to his Labour counterpart, Emily Thornberry, Attorney-general Dominic Grieve has confirmed that the SFO is on the case.
The Financial Times claims that in the letter Grieve writes: "The SFO is aware of the allegations against Mr Ecclestone and is liaising with the authorities in Germany to ascertain if there is a case in the UK to answer."
