Williams Chief Operations Engineer Mark Gillan has revealed that Pastor Maldonado has incurred a ten-place grid penalty in Abu Dhabi.
The penalty comes about because the Venezuelan will use his ninth engine in the forthcoming race, thereby going over the limit of eight and incurring the penalty. Teammate Rubens Barrichello will be using his eighth engine of the season.
The news comes as the Grove outfit enjoys its worst season ever in terms of points and its lowest ranking in the Constructors' Championship since 1978, its fist season as a manufacturer.
