Having visited the circuit which will host next month's inaugural Indian Grand Prix, Charlie Whiting is reported to have said that it "exceeds expectations".

The claim is made by Vicky Chandhok, father of Lotus reserve driver Karun Chandhok and chief of the Indian Motorsport Federation.

"He stated that the progress was more than satisfactory and exceeded expectations from when he last visited the site," said Chandhok in a statement, referring to the FIA's race director, Charlie Whiting. "He also expressed confidence that the inaugural Indian Grand Prix will be a huge success."

Speaking to Reuters, Chandhok promised that fans can look forward to a thrilling event. "The layout is absolutely brilliant and it's going to be a very high-speed race," he said. "Fans can now start preparing for the event."

With a booming economy and a growing interest in the sport, it is highly unlikely that India will follow the example of Turkey which, it was revealed yesterday, is dropped from the calendar after just seven years.
