Following this morning's meeting of the teams at which it was hoped for a unanimous vote on the scrapping of the ban on off-throttle exhaust blowing, it is understood that Ferrari and Sauber - which uses the Maranello outfit's powerplants - refused to back the call.

While the rule remains in place this weekend, had all teams agreed it would have been scrapped thereafter for the remainder of the season.

Toro Rosso, which uses Ferrari engines but is owned by Red Bull, who are at the heart of the row, voted in favour of scrapping the rule as did Cosworth.

In the eyes of many, today's news will reinforce widespread speculation that the rule was originally introduced in order to appease Ferrari.

More to follow.
