Renault is looking to supply a fourth team in 2012 in addition to Lotus Renault GP, Team Lotus and reigning champions Red Bull.
"We are speaking speculatively to a number of teams to expand our partner base," revealed Renault Sport F1 managing director Jean-Francois Caubet, according to Reuters, "we are discussing our situation with the FIA so we are fully ready if the situation arises."
While it has now sold out its remaining interest in what was its own team, the French manufacturer has made no secret of it desire to remain in the sport as an engine supplier and is a keen supporter of the proposed new formula for 2013.
At present, manufacturers are only allowed to supply three teams, therefore, such a move would require the blessing of the FIA.
Initial whispers suggest that Williams, currently supplied by Cosworth, might seek to switch to the French manufacturer.
