At long last the FIA has revealed plans aimed at recognising the contribution of the vast army of volunteers without whom Formula One, indeed, motor sport, could not happen.
Following today's meeting of the World Motor Sport Council in Paris it has been announced that in order to recognise the valuable work of motor sport officials around the world, the WMSC has agreed to the introduction of FIA annual awards for volunteers and officials.
These awards are an acknowledgement of the outstanding performance of senior and other officials, marshals and scrutineers working at any event that forms part of the FIA Sporting Calendar.
In addition, an FIA award for the 'Outstanding Official of the Year' will be presented to an official deemed to have carried out an exceptional action at any form of motor sport event, whether at national or international level. This award will be presented at the annual FIA Prize Giving Gala.
Furthermore, the FIA and the F1 commercial promoter have agreed to permit marshals at this year's Grand Prix to have their own pit lane walkabout as a message of thank you for their vital role.
They took their time but well done to all concerned, a great gesture.
