As scheduled, Robert Kubica was back in surgery today as doctors at the Santa Corona Hospital treated the complex fracture to his elbow.
The operation lasted eight hours in order to stabilise and reconstruct the damaged fragments of the delicate joint structure. At the end of the operation, the doctors were said to be pleased with the outcome, with the procedure being completed successfully
Robert will remain in intensive care for a few days as he recovers from this latest operation.
Earlier this evening, Lotus Renault GP confirmed that Nick Heidfeld will replace the Pole for opening phase of the season.
