Karun Chandhok has given up hope of securing a race seat this season and will instead concentrate on securing a test role.
As fellow-Indian Narain Karthikeyan returns to F1 after five years, Chandhok accepts that his chances of a place on the 2011 grid are virtually zero, admitting that he's no longer actively chasing a race seat.
"There's no real race seat that we are chasing," he told Reuters, quickly adding, "we were not chasing the HRT seat at all.
"I've been speaking to a variety of people," he continued, "but at the moment I am quite focused on getting something done for the medium to long term. If a third driver role leads to something better for 2012, then that's what I'd like to see."
The most likely scenario is a test role with Tony Fernandes is looking to take his team a major step forward this year. A year as understudy with the Malaysian outfit could see Chandhok return to the F1 grid in 2012.
