Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali has welcomed the FIA's decision to lift the ban on team orders.
Of course, the Maranello outfit is the team most widely associated with the practice having invoked the original ban in 2002 following its manipulation of the result of the Austrian Grand Prix and then carrying out an equally cynical move during this year's German event.
Yesterday, the World Motor Sport Council agreed to lift the ban on team orders from next season, though it stressed that deliberate manipulation likely to bring the sport into disrepute would result in punishment.
Speaking to the Gazzetta dello Sport at the Bologna Motor Show, Domenicali welcomed the decision. "Finally, we have said goodbye to this pointless hypocrisy," he declared. "For us, Formula 1 is a team sport and we have always maintained that viewpoint and it should be treated as such. The regulations already include points that prevent certain situations being managed in an extreme manner. The decision taken yesterday is very important."
