As opening practice for the 2010 Singapore Grand Prix closes in, so too do the skies. As the Formula BMW field left the circuit shortly after16:00 local time the skies opened, dousing the track and forcing the Porsche Carrera Cup cars into a last minute tyre change in the F1 pitlane.
Standing water and rivers across the road were an early feature of the Carrera Cup session, with large pools on many of the apexes around the back of the circuit causing cars to aquaplane.
Although the rain has stopped it seems unlikely the circuit will dry entirely before Formula One hits the tracks at 18:00 local time. While the light has not yet faded, the clouded skies have darkened the already dampened mood.
Contrary to common belief, spray does not, at this stage, appear to be a concern, however that may change as natural light diminishes and we move into the evening.
