Carlin will add the GP2 Series to its race programmes in 2011, having been selected as one of 13 teams for the next three year cycle in Formula One's strongest feeder series. Carlin can now offer one of the most complete packages in taking drivers from the junior formulas to the door of Formula 1.

Since its inception in 2005, the GP2 Series has become the premier single-seater series below F1. Of the current F1 grid, 11 drivers have graduated from GP2, including previous champions Nico Rosberg, Lewis Hamilton, Timo Glock and Nico Hulkenberg.

The 2011 GP2 Series and GP2 Asia Series will feature new cars and a change in tyre supplier to Pirelli. This will further strengthen the links to Formula 1 which will also use Pirelli tyres from 2011.

The GP2 Series will be the pinnacle of the Carlin pyramid of race series. The team are already six times winners of the British F3 championship, most recently in 2010 with Red Bull Junior Jean-Eric Vergne and are also leading the Formula Renault 3.5 Series with one round remaining with Russian driver Mikhail Aleshin. Carlin was also one of ten teams competing in the inaugural season of the GP3 Series this year.

Rupert Swallow, Managing Director of Capsicum Motorsport Limited, owners of Carlin said, "We are delighted that GP2 have selected Carlin as entrants to the new GP2 Series, it is a testament to our commitment to junior single seater racing. We fully expect to be able to continue our excellent track record of success at Carlin and to supply a first rate product to our drivers."

Speaking about the team's newest challenge, Trevor Carlin added, "This will further strengthen our reputation as a learning ground for young drivers and completes our staircase to F1. GP2 has long been an aim for us and we're now in the position where we have the on-track ability and financial security as part of the Capsicum Motorsport group to be able to give the series the dedication and attention that it deserves. With a new car and new tyres in 2011, this is an ideal opportunity to enter the series as a new team. We are already preparing for the first race of the GP2 Asia Series and aim to be competitive from the outset."
