In the wake of a number of incidents during the three free practice sessions, the FIA's Race Director, Charlie Whiting, has issued the following 'note' to the team's ahead of today's qualifying session:
Policy regarding cars being driven behind the kerbs at turns 1, 2, 4 and 5
1) A car will be deemed to have cut or missed a chicane if all four wheels are the wrong side (the side furthest from the track) of the higher part of the relevant kerb.
2) In qualifying ,every lap during which a driver cuts or misses a chicane will be deleted.
3) Other than to avoid an accident, if a driver cuts or misses a chicane three times during the race a drive-through penalty will automatically be imposed. Three further cuttings will incur a further drive-through penalty.
4) Any individual cutting of a chicane in which a clear advantage is gained will also incur a separate drive-through penalty.
5) Any cuttings on the first lap (other than those where a clear advantage is gained) will not count towards the cumulative total in 3) above.
