Despite having problems finding a driver to replace the injured Felipe Massa, Luca di Montezemolo appears keen to see teams enter three cars in 2010 and beyond.

In an interview with La Stampa, the Ferrari president admits that he is keen on the idea and had already been considering offering a seat to Michael Schumacher. The Italian also takes the opportunity for another swipe at the new teams entering the sport.

"Our circus needed some great input," he said. "We're continuing to fight until every team has the right to start with three cars in the next season - and one I'd have handed over to Michael with pleasure. I prefer three McLaren and three Renault to three 'whatevers'. With BMW gone, there's not much to say but lots to do."

Asked why he had considered Schumacher as the replacement for Massa and not looked at some of the upcoming talent, di Montezemolo doesn't mince his words and even hints that the German - despite his neck injury - could be in the running for the third car, should approval be given.

"We're talking about Michael Schumacher," he said. "Yes, he is 40 years old, but he's still from another planet. I prefer the champion, even if matured, to the mediocre driver, even if he's young."
