As the news that he is returning to F1 after a thirty-four month absence sinks in, Michael Schumacher admits that he is looking forward to facing the challenge.
Writing on his website, the seven-time champion confirms that he is preparing to return to the cockpit to stand-in for his injured friend and former teammate, Felipe Massa. However, first, the German wanted to send his good wishes to the Brazilian.
"The most important thing first: thank God, is that all news concerning Felipe is positive," writes Schumacher. "I wish him all the very best."
Referring to today's shock news that at the age of 40 years and 7 months, he will be lining up on the grid alongside three other World Champions, Schumacher reveals: "I had a meeting this afternoon with Stefano Domenicali and Luca di Montezemolo and together we decided that I will prepare myself to take the place of Felipe.
"Though it is true that the chapter Formula 1 has been closed for me long and completely, it is also true that for loyalty reasons to the team I cannot ignore this unfortunate situation," he adds. "But as a competitor I am I also very much looking forward to facing this challenge."
